Breaking Up

Dear Writer’s Block,

It’s not you, it’s me. I’ve been busy and preoccupied. I’ve had ideas that I have been chasing around instead of focusing and writing. I’ve been courting you while cheating on my keyboard. And it’s not fair to either of you. I should have been up front with you; that it was never going to work. It was only temporary, a fling. I am not that person you want or need me to be. Truth is, no matter how hard I try, I am addicted to words- how they sound, how they look, what they mean, and what I can do with them. I love writing. I can’t function well without it. When I dream, I dream that I am writing. And when I am awake, I fancy that I am out with my notebook and pencil, penning down the best ideas in the world.

So you see, I have to go back to my first love. Thanks for trying, for being around, but we both know it wasn’t a healthy relationship. It was tearing me apart. So yes, I am doing this for me. Selfish as it sounds, it has to be this way. Good bye, writer’s block.

It was for a while, “hello, goodbye”.
